26.05.1946 CS Communists win 93 of the possible 305 parliamentary seats in Czechoslovakia.
27.10.1946 BG The Communist-led Fatherland Front achieves an overwhelming victory in parliamentary elections.
19.11.1946 RO The Romanian Bloc of Democratic Parties (including Communists) win 384 of 450 seats in parliament in elections widely believed to be falsified.
19.02.1947 PL The manifestly fraudulent elections in Poland result in victory for the 'Democratic Bloc' dominated by Communists.

Poland, Czechoslovakia and Romania withdraw from the Marshall Plan, following the Soviet Union's lead.
08.1947 HU In parliamentary elections, the Communists, although gaining only 22% of the vote, become the largest party.
09.1947   At a meeting of the Soviet Union and its European satellite states, participants agree to creates the Communist press and propaganda bureau, Cominform.
02.1948 CS "Die Tschechoslowakische KP hat durch den von ihr beherrschten Polizeiapparat alle Parteileitungenm öffentliche Gebäude, Verlagshäuser und Sendestationen besetzt, das Erscheinen der meisten Zeitungen verboten oder unter ihre Kontrolle gebracht, kommunistisch geleitet Aktionkomitees mit der Exekutive und der politischen Willenskundgebung des Landes betraut, mehrere hundert Personen hinter Schloß und Riegel gesetzt, in den seit Bestehen der Krise herrenlosen Ministerien die Geschäfte übernommen und mißliebige Beamte entlassen."

28.06.1948 YU Yugoslavia is denounced at the Bucharest Cominform meeting, making public the breach between Tito and Stalin.
25.01.1949   The Soviet Block economic and trade organisation, Comecon. CMEA - Council for Mutual Economic Aid, comes into being.
12.05.1949 D Soviets admit defeat with the end of the Berlin blockade. 195 530 flights carried supplies during the 11-month blockade.

CS Minister Laszlo Rajk and 17 others are sentenced to death by show trials for 'provocation' and 'being agents of Anglo-American imperialism'.
07.10.1949 DDR The German Democratic Republic is created from the Soviet Occupied Zone of Germany.
11.1949 PL W³adis³aw Gomu³ka is removed from the Polish Communist Party's Central Committee, accused of being an anti-Soviet.
